Summer Break and the Future

Our next events are in planning - stay tuned!

Hey All, I hope you are having a great start to the summer vacation period. I am certainly looking forward to enjoying some nice weather and steaks from the Grill! Switzerland runs on low flame in Summer. Most people are away on vacation or take their free time to the lakes or mountains. And we are taking some time off from organizing events too. Maybe we will announce some short notice hikes, some Go Karting or maybe nothing at all. But if you do want to be the first to hear about it, make sure you follow our Telegram channel, click here to join! I may not post smaller events on Meetup, Facebook or the webpage every time, but the Telegram channel usually gets some extra love. But we do not remain completely without plans. We will use this break to continue planning out the rest of the year, including a new version of the Winter camp and Ice climbing in Adelboden next year. But for now, get in the mood with this classic German summer song!

What's in store?

Let me preface by saying everything is still in planning mode and none of the dates or events are fixed. Having said that, we plan to run a Multipitch climbing course on the weekend of September 24th and 25th. The location is yet unknown but will be different than previous courses. There will be a max of 6 participation spots, so make sure to save the date and join the telegram channel to be the first to learn when registration opens. The second event in planning is our Ice climbing weekend in Adelboden. Once again we return to Adelboden on Friday morning for our first session of Ice Climbing on the artificial Ice Falls at Engstligen Alp. The second day will take us to a natural ice fall somewhere in the area where we will put into practice what we have learned. The currently planned date for this event is 10th/11th of February 2023.

Ice Climbing for Beginners

More Mountaineering, More Alps!

Our Mountaineering tours sold out extremely quickly this year! I was positively surprised by the positive feedback of these tours and honestly, I would love to organize more! Unfortunately, most huts are already fully booked on weekends and it is hard to find an exciting route near a hut that still has space. On top of that, all our favorite mountain guides are also unavailable, making it practically impossible to plan more tours this summer. I have taken the hint and will start booking the huts earlier in the year to make sure we have a variety of tours available next year. Perhaps even a mountaineering course?

Lastly, we are looking into bringing back our original winter camp! The idea behind the winter camp is to allow for a variety of winter sports in a short amount of time while enjoying the flair of a mountain village. Ice climbing will likely be part of the winter camp again, as well as Ski Touring, an avalanche course and maybe some snow shoeing. Organizing this is a bit more challenging, but I would love to take it on! Right now, our best estimate for when this camp could take place is around the beginning of March, but no further details yet. A lot has to happen to get this one off the ground!

Personal Life

Great news are also coming from the personal front, because I have become a dad! Yes, I have become the father of a tiny little girl. You can probably imagine that my priorities have also shifted since birth. Maybe there will be family oriented events coming in the future, or maybe I will develop an entirely different channel for it. Right now is too early to tell. The baby still needs all available attention from Mom and Dad.

Future

Moving forward, my plan is to continue bringing you outdoor and alpine events for beginners. But the events will likely not get more adventurous than they have been so far. There are many reasons for it. First, it has always been my passion to bring in new people to the outdoors and the Alps. This isn’t possible if too much advanced knowledge is required. Second, while I would love to push the envelope with some of these events, the fact is, they cannot be scaled to bigger groups. And if I cannot scale the adventure, I cannot add value to the experience. You are probably much better off calling a mountain guide directly and letting the mountain guide take you on the adventure of your choosing. I will gladly help you find a mountain guide or discuss potential goals that are right for you.

Learning to Multipitch

"At the end of June, we finally met again for another high alpine tour. Ever since my first 4’000 meter summit last year, I knew I wanted to repeat the feeling. And while the Clariden is not above 4k, the scenery surrounding it is just as beautiful."
