Fall hiking season is here and we are heading out to the alps one last time

Join us for two days, hiking from Murren to Kandersteg. A weekend in the Alps with flexible arrival and departure. Arrive Friday evening or Saturday morning and stay for one or two days of hiking – Skip the heavy uphill section by Gondola or test your endurance and conquer 1’330 meters of altitude before lunch

From Friday, September 26th to Sunday September 28th

Our starting point will be in Mürren on Saturday morning. We will depart just in time for the first connection from Interlaken to arrive. Our morning challenge will take us up 1’330 meters to the top of Schilthorn, where we will meet the lazy hikers who chose to take the gondola instead. After lunch, we will follow the “walk of fame” ridge hike for two kilometers. After some up and down, we will cross the Sefinenfurgge Pass. From there, it is only downhill to get to Bundsteg, where we will say goodbye to our friends who will not join day 2. Our hike will continue up the mountain to get us to Obere Bundalp, for dinner and a good nights rest. The Bundalp is not a hotel, but an active alpine farm that has some spare rooms. They do offer a shower for a small fee. Overall, we can expect good food, a shower and a bed, and an early breakfast. Day Totals: Distance 20.4km, Ascend 2’060 meters, Descend 1’860 meter – Short Version: Distance 11.9km, Ascend 720 meters, Descend 1’850 meters

Hiking Day 2

After a refreshing sleep, we plan to get an alpine start early in the morning and have breakfast before six. We have most of our days ascend right in front of us and want to get it past us as early as possible. We start our hike between 6 and 6:30 and are heading up to Bluemlisalphuette for a second coffee and a snack. From there, we will head down to Berghaus Unterbaergli for a snack or an early lunch. Then, heading past the world famous instagram spot, lake Oeschinen, we arrive at our final destination, Kandersteg train station. Those who wish can also take the gondola down from Oeschinensee. Our planned arrival time at Kandersteg train station is between 14:00 and 16:00 on Sunday. Day Totals: Distance, 15.4km, Ascend 1’000 meters, Descend 1’670 meters.

Arrival Options

Friday Night

Friday night is the most convenient way to travel. Book a Hotel in Murren and spend the night in this beautiful village. This also ensures you are well rested for the challenging days ahead. Meet us on Saturday morning around 7 am. We will coordinate the rest via Whatsapp.

Saturday Early

You can’t travel on Friday but still want to complete the full hike? Join us on Saturday morning at 7 am in Murren. Since this village cannot be reached by car, you are asked to park in Interlaken and take the 6 am (first) train from there to Murren. We will coordinate the meeting point via Whatsapp

Saturday Late

Still too early or simply wish to skip the heavy uphill part? Simply take the gondola and meet us on top of Schilthorn for lunch around 11:15. Coordinate your own travel around Murren or take the 10 am connection from Interlaken to be on time on top of the mountain

Departure

Saturday

If you wish to leave us on saturday night already, you can do so just before our final ascend to Bundalp in Griestal. The SBB trainstation is called “Griesalp Kurhaus” and the last two buses leave at 16:43, and the last Bus at 18:16. The Buses run to Reichenbach and onward to Spiez. It is unlikely for us to reach the second last Bus on time, but the last Bus should not be a problem.

Sunday

If you join us for the whole journey, then our final destination will be the Kandersteg trainstation. Depending on our tempo and length of breaks, our estimated time of arrival should be between 14:00 and 16:00. From Kandersteg the trains run at regular intervals to Spiez. If we are short on time, or just tired, we can also lessen our descend by taking the gondola down to Kandersteg from Oeschinensee

Costs

Only if you stay until Sunday and would like me to book your place in Bundalp will I ask for a pre-payment. If you are traveling to Murren on Friday, please organize your own stay. I can help with the coordination. You are also responsible to organize and pay for your own arrival and departure as well as any cable cars or gondolas on the hike. Costs for the Bundalp overnight stay are: 69 CHF in a double room, including dinner and breakfast – or 53 CHF in the mass bedroom, also including dinner and breakfast.
