UPDATE: Additional Day planned due to popular demand!

Join us for a day of Ice Climbing in Adelboden on Sunday, February 20th

Last season, we organized a Winter camp in Kandersteg to try out different winter sport activities. One of those activities was ice climbing! While we had only recently began to climb at all, I thought Ice climbing was reserved for the most hard-core sport climbers. But actually, it is not all that difficult. At least not in top rope and with a mountain guide! Having said that, It is a lot of fun, and fore sure provides amazing pictures and videos to show to all your climbing friends! It was one of the activities that was requested most during our winter event survey at the beginning of the season. Check out the results from the Winter Survey here

We are returning to Adelboden this year for a single day of ice climbing. Given the current situation, we believe it is the best compromise of meeting people and being outdoors. If you have never tried ice climbing, this is your chance for a full day with a personal instructor, giving you all the tips, you need to climb your first couple of walls with Ice Picks!

Our Last Ice Climbing Adventures:

Requirements for Ice Climbing

If you have climbed before and know how to belay a partner, you’re ready for Ice climbing. You do not need experience in ice climbing before joining us. We have Beni with us who will make sure everyone is safe and secure. Having said that, this is not a beginner climbing course. We will not cover knots or belay devices. You need to know these by heart and bring your climbing belt and belay device with you. If you are unsure about your skills, I suggest refresher course at your local climbing hall to be up to speed before joining us in Adelboden.

Location

While ice climbing on natural waterfalls is the goal, they do not always provide the perfect conditions for a beginner’s course. Adelboden has one of the few artificial ice climbing gardens in Switzerland and offers a central location for our event. We will arrive on Friday morning by the Gondola and head straight up to the climbing garden. The ice falls offer a variety of routes with varying difficulties and are located directly next to the cable car.

Costs

The cost for a full day ice climbing with Beni is 200 CHF per person for a maximum group size of six people. This ensures Beni has enough time to teach each of us individually. The cost includes rental equipment for Ice climbing, e.g. the Ice axes and crampons. It does not include climbing belt or belay device, since we assume you already own these.

Not included in the costs are your travel to and from the event, as well as any personal expense for snacks or drinks during the day. Gondola ticket and park entry fee (10 CHF) is not included in the price.

Other Notes and Equipment

Make sure to eat a healthy breakfast before arriving in Adelboden and bring a packed lunch and something to drink. There is no mountain hut nearby for food or beverages, but there is a toiled in the gondola station for urgent needs.

You should wear warm clothes to the event. Hard shell top layer is recommended, especially if the weather is not so kind to us. Crampon ready boots are a requirement. Without them, you will not be able to secure the crampons tight enough for ice climbing. For climbing, a harness and a belay device are required. Ice Axes and crampons will be provided on site. A change of clothes is always helpful, and I always leave an additional change of clothes in the car for the travel back.

Covid

Since we will be staying at a hotel, C19 Certification is required for this event. You must be healthy to attend this event. Proof of vaccination must be provided in the Swiss Covid App. This is a G1 event.

Cancellation policy

Registration is confirmed once we receive your payment. Cancellation cannot be refunded for this event because the mountain guide is booked. If the event is cancelled from our side, a full refund will be issued.
